HCS Coach Code of Conduct

To download as a PDF: hcs coach code of conduct.pdf

  • I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for children and not adults.

  • I will be knowledgeable in the rules of soccer and the policies of the league, and I will teach these rules to my players.

  •  I will do my best to give my players equal playing time as much as possible on the field during games.

  •  I will teach my team how to win, as well as how to lose.

  •  I will do my best to avoid “blow-out” games.  If my team is up by 5 points, I will pull my team back so the game does not become a miserable experience for the other team.

  •  I will respect the referees and their authority during games.  I understand that refereeing is a tough job, and that most of the HCS referees are kids who are still learning. I understand that there are no stakes to the HCS soccer games, and if I disagree with a referee’s call, I will demonstrate good sportsmanship and accept it anyway.

  •  I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play, teamwork, inclusiveness, and sportsmanship to all my players.

  •  I will treat all players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, gender or ability.

  •  I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.

  •  I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.

  •  I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.

  •  I will work with parents to address concerns brought to my attention.  If there is an issue that I cannot resolve with the parents, I will reach out to an HCS board member or director for assistance.

  •  I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.

  •  I promise to review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of my players.

  •  I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.

  •  I will use those coaching techniques appropriate for all of the skills that I teach.

  •  I will always remember that OUR GOAL IS FUN!

  •  I understand that repeated violations of this code of conduct will result in my dismissal as a coach.
