HCS Parent Guidelines

The goal of Hendricks Community Soccer is to provide the children of HCS with an opportunity to play soccer in an enjoyable, safe, and constructive manner.

HCS is a learning recreational soccer league.  Our programs place emphasis on skill building, rules of the game, sportsmanship, and having fun!

In order to do this, we expect all coaches, players, and parents to always set a good example by showing good sportsmanship at practices and games.

Players, coaches, assistants, or bench personnel engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct (such as swearing, harassing referees, intentionally committing serious fouls, etc...) will be cautioned and/or ejected from games. Parents engaging in this type of conduct will be asked to leave the fields.  If continuous unsportsmanlike conduct occurs, individual(s) will no longer be allowed to participate in HCS activities.

Please be aware of the following game and field etiquette:

  • No baseball or football cleats, and no metal cleats. (Referees will check.)
  • No pets on Hendricks Community Soccer grounds.  People who bring pets to the games will be asked to leave.
  • No parking on or along the grass, along the roads or the parking lot adjacent to the soccer fields.  Cars that are parked or idled along the roads or soccer fields will be asked to move.
  • Weather: in the event that games are cancelled due to inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HendricksSoccer/) and text messages will be sent to head coaches so that they can communicate cancellations to their players.
  • Respect referee and coach decisions
  • Refrain from being on playing field during game and permit referees the allowed space to work.
  • Parents sit on the opposite side of the field from the players.
  • If disruptive during game day, the referee will speak to the coach and ask the coach to speak to the parent.  If the disruptive behavior continues, the parent could be removed from fields by an HCS official.

And please observe the following guidelines:

  • Applaud good plays; don’t dwell on bad plays.
  • Children imitate their parents. If you are disruptive, your child and possibly others will act in a similar fashion.
  • The stands are not a place to shout personal instructions. Respect the coach’s decision and abilities. Don’t force your children to decide whether to listen to you or to the coach.
  • Stress fair and sensible play. Nobody needs to get hurt because someone is not playing by the rules.
  • Stress the long-term importance of practice over the short-term excitement of games.
  • Stress the importance of teamwork.
  • Never lose sight of the fact that you are a role model.
  • Don’t yell if your child makes a mistake. Point out what they do well. Positive reinforcement goes a long way.
  • Take time to learn the rules of the game.
  • Remember that coaches and administrators are volunteers.
  • Never criticize the referee. It is a tough job and most of our referees are kids who are learning the same as everybody else. As a rec league, there are no stakes to our games.  If you disagree with a referee’s call, be a good sport and accept it anyway.
  • Place the well-being of every child above a personal desire to win
  • Please do not attempt to parent other peoples’ children.
